Amasa M. Lyman

A
Amasa Mason Lyman (March 30, 1813–February 4,
1877) (commonly known as Amasa M. Lyman) was an
early leader in the Latter Day Saint movement. He
was briefly an Apostle under Joseph Smith, Jr.,
filling a place in the Quorum of the Twelve that
had been temporarily vacated by Orson Pratt. He
resumed his place in the Quorum as led by Brigham
Young after Smith's death. Much later, in the
Utah|Utah Territory, he rejected Young's
leadership and became the president of Godbeites
church (a short-lived Latter Day Saint
denomination).

Amasa M. Lyman's posterity includes Francis M.
Lyman and Richard R. Lyman, both of whom became
apostles in The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints.
