Barry Ferguson(born February 2, 1978)is a
Scotland|Scottish professional football
(soccer)|football midfielder who currently plays
for Scottish Premier League Rangers F.C.|Rangers.

Ferguson joined his boyhood heroes Rangers at the
age of just thirteen. He went on to become a
regular for the Glasgow giants and was made
captain by manager Dick Advocaat. The arrival at
Rangers of Alex McLeish had a very positive impact
on Ferguson, and in the 2002-2003|03 season he won
the domestic treble as Rangers' captain. He was
also voted Scottish Player of the Year. 

Ferguson moved to Blackburn Rovers F.C. in 2003
mainly due to severe financial problems at Rangers
and he was made captain in July 2004 replacing
Garry Flitcroft. Ferguson returned to Rangers on
January 31 2005 for a fee of around £4.5m.

Ferguson is also a regular fixture in the Scotland
national football team|Scotland national team
where he was also made captain by manager Berti
Vogts following the retirement of Paul Lambert.

Barry's older brother Derek also played for
Rangers.
