Cecilia Beaux (1855–-September 7,1942) was
an United States|American society portraitist, in
the nature of John Singer Sargent.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she
received the bulk of her art training at the
Academie Julien in Paris. During her time in Paris
she studied under painters Tony Robert-Fleury and
William-Adolphe Bouguereau. 


In 1890 she exhibited at the Paris Exposition.
Returning to Philadelphia, Miss Beaux obtained in
1893 the gold medal of the Philadelphia Art Club,
and also the Dodge prize at the New York National
Academy, and later various other distinctions. She
became a member of the National Academy of Design,
New York, in 1902. Among her portraits are those
of Georges Clemenceau ; Edith Roosevelt and her
daughter; and David Beatty, 1st Earl
Beatty|Admiral Sir David Beatty. Her Dorothea and
Francesca, and Ernesta and her Little Brother, are
good examples of her skill in painting children.
