C
Cerrone (full name: Jean-Marc Cerrone) is a
France|French singer and music producer born in
Paris, and one of the best representatives of the
European Disco. At the age of 12 he started
playing drum kit|drums and listening to Otis
Redding's songs. His passion for music scared his
father, who tried to distract him from his
obsession. By the end of the 60's, he was
fascinated by, among others, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos
Santana, and Blood, Sweat & Tears.

At the age of 17 he convinced Gilbert Trigano to
hire rock bands for his famous holiday clubs: The
Club Med (Club Mediterranée). Cerrone became the
A&R (artist and repertoire) for 40 Club Med
vacation villages around the world. He signed with
the French label Barclay, and released his first
hit, Boom.

In 1975 he moved to London, where he recorded,
mixed and produced his album "Love in C Minor",
released in 1976 in music|1976. Distributed in the
USA by Atlantic Records, and famous for its
17-minute title song with erotic appeal, the album
became a smash dance hit, reaching 10 million
copies sold worldwide. On the next year, Cerrone
released "Supernature", another disco classic,
with 8 million copies sold. The song "Supernature"
has a sci-fi theme: it's about the rebellion of
super creatures - fed by potions created by
science|scientists to end up starvation among
mankind - against the humans. With these two
albums, Cerrone became the first French disco
superstar.

Cerrone also won 5 Grammy Awards and some Golden
Globes. He also produced movie soundtracks.
