Dan Petrescu (born 22 December 1967 in Bucharest, Romania) is a former international football (soccer) player, who played for FA Premier League|English Premiership club Chelsea F.C.|Chelsea and the Romania national football team|Romanian national team. Petrescu moved to Chelsea in 1995, in a 2.3 million pound transfer from Sheffield Wednesday. He also played for Southampton F.C.|Southampton and Romanian club FC Steaua Bucuresti. Petrescu registered 95 caps for the Romanian national team. He made his debut for the squad in 1989, and played and scored in the Football World Cup 1994|1994 and Football World Cup 1998|1998 World Cups. He also played in 1996 European Football Championship|Euro 1996. Petrescu is currently pursuing a career as a manager. He recently resigned from FC Rapid Bucharest, after only six games and four months at the helm. footybio-stub
