Biography of Daniel Mendoza - Boxer
Biography
D
Daniel Mendoza (5 July 1764 – 3 September 1836) was an England|English-Jewish prizefighter, who was heavy-weight boxing champion of England 1792-1795 and is considered the "father of scientific boxing". Was well known for transforming the stereotypical image of a jew from a weak, indefensible person to a strong and tough warrior. Queen Victoria's admiration for Mendoza was extensively known. It was commonplace for Victoria to invite Mendoza to the royal court where Mendoza would entertain Queen Victoria with his scientific boxing methodology. Mendoza was the first boxer to ever create a methodology for the art. His ability to overcome much heavier adversaries was a consequence of this. Members of his ancestry later went on to discover new styles in modern fencing. Mendoza is Peter Sellers' great-great grandfather. sportbio-stub ==External links== *http://www.jewishsports.net/BioPages/DanielMendoz a.htm Daniel Mendoza at the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
