Biography of David Toms - Golfer
Biography
D
David Wayne Toms (born January 4, 1967 in Monroe, Louisiana) is an United States|American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He has spent a considerable amount of time in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings. Toms won the 15-17 Boys' event at the 1984 Junior World Golf Championships. He then attended Louisiana State University before joining the PGA Tour in 1992. As of 9 March 2005 he has won one major championship, namely the 2001 PGA Championship, and a total of eleven events on the PGA Tour. At the same date he was sixth on the http://www.pgatour.com/stats/leaders/r/2005/110 PGA Tour career money leaders chart, and remains sixth through 12 June. His winning score of 265 (15 under par) in the 2001 PGA Championship is the lowest absolute 72-hole score ever recorded in a major championship (although not the lowest in relation to par; Tiger Woods holds that record). At the 2005 Memorial Tournament, during the 9th hole of the 4th round, Toms missed a putt. Upon seeing this a fan yelled out "Good Job Freddy", referring to Fred Couples and how missing that putt had helped Couples. Upon hearing this Toms made a gesture which was apparently him scratching his cheek, but it was caught on camera and was really giving the man who had yelled out the finger|a middle finger. Toms later denied this, but it was confirmed later with a photo. Although it was thought that Toms would have to pay a fine, the PGA never took action. ==PGA TOUR wins== *1997 Quad City Classic *1999 The INTERNATIONAL|Sprint International, Buick Challenge *2000 Michelob Championship at Kingsmill *2001 Compaq Classic of New Orleans, PGA Championship, Michelob Championship at Kingsmill *2003 Wachovia Championship, FedEx St. Jude Classic *2004 FedEx St. Jude Classic *2005 WGC-Accenture World Matchplay Championship ==United States team appearances== *Ryder Cup: 2002, 2004 *Presidents Cup: 2003 ==External links== *http://www.pgatour.com/players/intro/132128 Profile on the PGA Tour's official site *http://www.golfstarsonline.com/T/David_Toms/ Golf Stars Online - links to features and profiles
