Didier Deschamps (born October 15 1968 in Bayonne) is a former France|French football (soccer) player and present manager, who currently is the head coach of AS Monaco FC|AS Monaco in France's Ligue 1. Deschamps captained France national football team|France to victories in the Football World Cup 1998|1998 World Cup and 2000 European Football Championship|Euro 2000. On the club level, Deschamps played for FC Nantes Atlantique|Nantes (1985-90), Olympique de Marseille|Olympique Marseille (1990 and 1991-94), Girondins de Bordeaux|Bordeaux (1990-91), Juventus (1994-99), Chelsea F.C.|Chelsea (1999-2000) and Valencia CF|Valencia (2000-01). With Juventus, he won the UEFA Champions League|Champions League in 1996. For France, Deschamps earned 102 caps and scored four goals. Other than the two international triumphs, he also played at Ec|96. Deschamps was named by Pelé as one of the FIFA 100|top 125 greatest living footballers in March 2004. Deschamps was often derided in his career by being described as "the water-carrier" by which was meant he only existed to pass the ball to more talented players.
