From 1989 to 1998, Dwight played for Aston Villa.
He was a right winger until the 1995-96 season,
when he switched to centre forward and quickly
established himself as one of the FA Premier
League|Premiership's top strikers. In August 1998,
he was transferred to Manchester United for £12.6
million.

In his first three seasons, Yorke was a key player
in guiding his club to three successive
Premiership titles including a unique treble of
the Premiership title, F.A. Cup and Champions
League, and at the same time forming a deadly
attacking partnership with Andy Cole.

In 2001-02, Yorke lost his place in the line-up
following the arrival of Ruud van Nistelrooy. The
following summer he was sold to Blackburn Rovers
for £2 million, spending two years at the club
before joining Birmingham City in 2004 on a free
transfer. He saw little action during the first
part of the FA Premier League 2004-05|2004-05
season, and made no appearances after January
2005. Yorke was eventually released from his
contract, and he signed with Sydney on 17 April,
opting to continue his career in Australia for
less money than in some other leagues, notably
those in the Middle East. He scored the first goal
for Sydney in its first A-League regular season
match, a diving header against the Melbourne
Victory.

He was once in a much publicised relationship with
United Kingdom|British supermodel Jordan
(model)|Jordan, and has a child with her called
Harvey. Yorke disputed paternity until it was
proven by a DNA test as Jordan had indicated all
along.

Dwight Yorke is idolised in his native Trinidad
and Tobago, to the extent that the national
football stadium of the nation is named after him.

One of Yorke's closest friends is fellow
Trinidadian Brian Lara who went onto be one of the
most famous cricket players in the 1990s.
