Emily Browning (born December 7 1988) is a child
actor.
She was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. 

Emily's breakthrough into acting began when she
was noticed by a friend's father at a school play.
He recommended Emily try professional acting and
find an agent, and shortly afterwards Emily had
won an audition (performing arts)|audition for a
part in the Hallmark TV movie The Echo of Thunder,
alongside Judy Davis. Other parts in Australian
productions followed, including a role in The Man
Who Sued God, playing the daughter of Billy
Connolly's character. (She again appeared beside
Billy in Lemony Snicket.)

Emily's first major role came when she had a
recurring role as Hayley Fulton, a troubled teen
on Blue Heelers, who was taken in by Tess
Gallagher (Caroline Craig). Browning appeared
regularly from 2000 to 2002, when her character
was forced to return to her real family. She then
starred in the horror film Darkness Falls and also
appeared alongside Orlando Bloom and Heath Ledger
in the 2003 drama movie Ned Kelly.

Browning's most recent project is the film Lemony
Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, in which
she played the role of Violet Baudelaire, the
oldest child who is a great inventor and very
clever. Browning appears alongside Jim Carrey and
Meryl Streep.

Emily has been quoted to be taking a break from
film shooting, and has returned to Australia to
attend school. She is currently dating a fellow
student, Liam Shambrook, not be confused with Liam
Aiken her Snicket co-star.
