Giuseppe Meazza frase

Giuseppe Meazza

G
Giuseppe Meazza (August 23 1910 in Milan –
August 21 1979) was an Italy|Italian footballer
playing, as a midfielder, for Internazionale|Inter
in the 1930s scoring 243 goals in 361 games for
the club. He is still today considered one of the
greatest Italian players of all time with
Valentino Mazzola, Gianni Rivera, Renzo De Vecchi,
Luigi Riva, Paolo Maldini and Roberto Baggio. (All
thats fantastic players, except Roberto Baggio,
were born or in Milano or a maximum distance of
not more than 40 kms from the city centre!)

Meazza was considered the first 'star' of Italian
Football, and was the first player with personal
sponsors. He was also famous for sleeping at a
brothel the night before a match.

The San Siro, the principal stadium in Milan which
is today shared by Inter and crosstown rivals A.C.
Milan|AC Milan, is now officially called Stadio
Giuseppe Meazza. However, in the spirit of the
rivalry between the two clubs, Milan supporters
continue to call the ground San Siro.

==Career at Inter Milan==
Meazza still holds the record for the most goals
scored in a debut season in Serie A, with 31 goals
in his first season (1929-1930|30). The year
before, when Serie A didn't exist, and the Italian
Championship was composed by 2 league (North and
Central-South) with Playoff, Meazza played with
Internazionale 29 matches with 38 goals at the age
of 18 years! Consider also that the pre-Serie A
championship was more difficult, cause all the
strongest teams were located on North Italy, the
group were Meazza played with Internazionale. When
was organized the first Serie A championship in
the 1930 there were 14 club of North Italy and 4
of Central-South Italy, so the level of the
matches was poorest.

He won with Internazionale 3 National Championship
with Inter in the 1930, 1938 and 1940 and was
runner-up in the 1933, 1934, 1935; the Italian Cup
in the 1939 and was Top-scorer of Serie A 3 times
(1930, 1937, 1938). By the way he was toposcorer
also in the 1929 but in the pre-Serie A
championship. At the end of his career he played
also with A.C. Milan, Juventus and Atalanta
Bergamo.

==National Team Career==
Meazza played for Italy national football
team|Italy in the Football World Cup 1934|1934 and
Football World Cup 1938|1938 Football World
Cup|World Cups, both of which Italy won.

Among his memorable moments is a goal he scored in
the 1938 tournament against Brazil national
football team|Brazil in the semi-final. Italy was
awarded a controversial penalty and as Meazza
stepped up to take it, his pants fell down.
Meazza, without letting this stress him, grabbed
his pants and shot past the confused Brazilian
keeper Walter, sending Italy through to the final.
