Grzegorz Lato (born April 8, 1950 in Malbork, Poland) is a former Polish football (soccer) striker, the all-time cap leader for the Poland national football team|Polish national team and the World Cup Golden Boot|leading scorer at the Football World Cup 1974|1974 World Cup. For Poland, Lato has been capped a record of 95 times between 1971 and 1984; he scored 42 goals, second-best in national history behind Wlodzimierz Lubanski. Other than the 1974 World Cup, where he scored seven goals, also played in the Football World Cup 1978|1978 and Football World Cup 1982|1982 editions. Lato won the gold medal for Poland at the 1972 Summer Olympics and the silver medal in 1976 Summer Olympics|1976. He spent most of his club career with Stal Mielec. Lato also played in Mexico in the 1982-83 season for CF Atlante|Atlante, where he scored 15 goals. Currently, Lato is a senator in his native Poland. footybio-stub
