Biography of Jack Lord - Actor
Biography
J
John Joseph Patrick Ryan (December 30, 1920–January 21, 1998), best known by his stage name Jack Lord, is noted for his performances as an actor on television and film, most notably for his starring role as Steve McGarrett on Hawaii Five-O. He appeared in several classic films, among them Man of the West (1958) starring Gary Cooper. Lord was the first actor to play Felix Leiter, in the first James Bond film Dr. No. He was not allowed to return as the producers felt having the same actor playing Leiter would threaten the dominance of Sean Connery as the leading man. Lord was also a talented artist: the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum of Modern Art each own a painting by him. He also appeared in several Broadway productions, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Jack Lord died of congestive heart failure at his home in Honolou in January 1998, at the age of seventy-seven. == External links == *http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0520437/ IMDB Entry *http://lileks.com/institute/publicity/lord.html Jack Lord painting at the Institute of Official Cheer
