Judas (יהודה "Praise", Standard Hebrew Yəhuda, Tiberian Hebrew Yəhûḏāh) is the name of several men in late Jewish and New Testament history. The original Greek language|Greek text of the New Testament makes no difference between the names "Judah", "Judas" and "Jude", rendering them all as Ioudas; but in many English translations "Judah" is used for the Old Testament figure and the tribe named after him, "Judas" is used only for Judas Iscariot, and "Jude" for all other New Testament persons of the same name. *Judas Iscariot, betrayer of Jesus *Judas Maccabaeus, Jewish revolt leader *Judas the Zealot, alternate name either of Saint Jude or possibly of Simon the Canaanite *Judas of Galilee, Jewish revolt leader Judas Priest, the music group, took its named from a Minced oaths|minced oath.
