J
Judas (יהודה
"Praise", Standard Hebrew Yəhuda, Tiberian
Hebrew Yəhûḏāh) is the name of
several men in late Jewish and New Testament
history. The original Greek language|Greek text of
the New Testament makes no difference between the
names "Judah", "Judas" and "Jude", rendering them
all as Ioudas; but in many English translations
"Judah" is used for the Old Testament figure and
the tribe named after him, "Judas" is used only
for Judas Iscariot, and "Jude" for all other New
Testament persons of the same name.

*Judas Iscariot, betrayer of Jesus
*Judas Maccabaeus, Jewish revolt leader
*Judas the Zealot, alternate name either of Saint
Jude or possibly of Simon the Canaanite
*Judas of Galilee, Jewish revolt leader

Judas Priest, the music group, took its named from
a Minced oaths|minced oath.

Judas is also a common derogatory nickname for
those, who after reaching some kind of prominence
in an institution, change to rival/opposite sides
for financial reasons. This often happens in
sports.
