Karen Stupples (born 6 June 1973 in Dover, Kent) is an England|English professional golfer who plays primarily on the U.S. based LPGA Tour and is also a member of the Ladies European Tour. Like an increasing number of British golfers, Stupples took a golf scholarship at an American university, as there is no such thing in the UK, and student golf does not have a high profile there. She attended Florida State University. She represented Great Britain in the Curtis Cup in 1996 and 1998 and turned professional following the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship of that year. She then qualified for the LPGA Tour by tying for 52nd at the 1998 Final Qualifying Tournament to earn non-exempt status for the 1999 season. Her professional career begin in modest fashion, with just a few top ten finishes by the end of 2003, but her form transformed in 2004. She won the Women's British Open, which is one of the women's majors|LPGA majors, had a string of top ten finishes and ended the season in sixth place on the money list, which was her fifth consecutive improvement in her position. In 2005 she was in a tie for the lead after three rounds of the U.S. Women's Open (golf)|U.S. Women's Open, but she fell away on the Sunday.
