Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan became the first United States|American woman to walk in space when she performed an Extra-vehicular activity|EVA during Space Shuttle Challenger mission STS-41-G on 1984 October 11. She flew on three space shuttle missions and logged 532 hours in space. Sullivan holds a Doctor of Philosophy|Ph.D. in oceanography from Dalhousie University. In addition to a 13-year career as an astronaut with NASA, she served as an oceanography officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve and was chief scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Sullivan currently serves as President and CEO of the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio. On February 14, 2005 Center of Science and Industry|COSI announced that Sullivan will be vacating the position of President and CEO to accept the position of Center of Science and Industry|COSI science advisor.
