Michael Christie (1969-2004) was a professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour|PGA, Nationwide Tour|Nationwide and NGA Hooters Tour|Hooters professional golfing circuits. Born in June 1969 in Greenville, South Carolina, he was an All-American at the University of South Carolina in 1992. Christie won his first professional tournament on what was then called the Nike Tour at the Carolina Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1995 by shooting a tournament record of 22 under par. Michael began his professional career in 1993 qualifying for the U.S. Open where he made the cut. He played the Nike Tour from 1994 to 1996 winning 4 times and thereby earning his PGA Tour card. Michael played on the PGA Tour from 1997 to 2000 as well as in 2003, with his best finish being a tie for sixth at the Greater Vancouver Open in 1997. Christie began experiencing debilitating physical ailments beginning in 1998 which curtailed his golfing career. Through several surguries, he attempted comebacks to the professional ranks through 2003. Michael died of self-inflicted wounds in 2004. In addition to his successes on the PGA and Nationwide tour, Christie won twice on the Hooters Tour.
