Michael Eladio Lopez-Alegria (born 30 May 1958) is an United States|American astronaut and a veteran of three space shuttle missions. Lopez-Alegria, born in Madrid and raised in Mission Viejo, California, joined the United States Navy and earned engineering degrees in 1980 and 1988 from the United States Naval Academy|Naval Academy and the United States Naval Postgraduate School|Naval Postgraduate School.
