Pavel Romanovich Popovich (Russian language|Russian: Павел Романов& #1080;ч Попович; born October 5, 1930 in Uzin) was a Astronaut|Cosmonaut who commanded two manned space missions|space flights, Vostok 4 and Soyuz 14. His call sign in these flights was Golden eagle (Russian language|Russian: Бе́ркут). He was the first Ukrainian cosmonaut. In 1960, he was selected as one of a group of twenty air force pilots that would train as the first cosmonauts. He was originally selected to command the Soyuz 2 mission, but following the accident that killed Vladimir Komarov, that mission was launched without a crew.
