Born in Magadan, Magadan Oblast, Russian SFSR on August 31, 1953. Married with three children. Selected as a cosmonaut on March 3, 1992. Flew as Flight Engineer on Soyuz TM-26. Was also assigned to an earlier flight, Soyuz TM-24, but the entire crew was grounded when the Commander, G. Manakov, experienced heart problems.
