Rani Mukerji (formerly Mukherjee) (born March 21, 1978), is an Indian Actor|actress in Bollywood movies. She comes from a film-industry background family of Bengali origin. Her father is director Ram Mukherjee. Kajol, another well-known actress, is her cousin. She has one brother, Raja Mukherjee. She first appeared in the film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat in 1996. The film was not a hit. However, she was lucky in her second and third films: Ghulam and then the 1998 mega-hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. She won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. After a string of appearances in average movies, she again won a Filmfare award in 2002, but this time a Critic's Choice Best Actress award for her work in Saathiya. In 2004 she won both the Filmfare Best Actress Award and the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her roles in Hum Tum and Yuva respectively creating history as to become the first woman to ever win in both the prestigious categories in a single year at Filmfare. She has also appeared in Chalte Chalte (2003) and by the end of 2004 in blockbuster, Veer-Zaara. Her recent film, Black(The Movie), where she essays the character of a deaf-blind girl, has drawn many favorable reviews.
