Rick Davis (born November 24, 1958 in Denver,
Colorado|Denver, Colorado) is an American soccer
midfielder, captain (football)|captain of the
United States men's national soccer team|US
National Team for a large part of the 1980s.

Davis played a year of college soccer at Santa
Clara University before going pro with the New
York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League in
1978. An American on a team of international
superstars, he helped the team to three league
titles. After the demise of NASL, Davis swithced
to indoor soccer, playing in the Major Soccer
League for the St. Louis Steamers, New York
Arrows, and Tacoma Stars.

Davis made his first appearance for the United
States on September 15, 1977 against El Salvador
national football team|El Salvador, and scored his
first international goal in that game. Overall, he
earned 36 caps (a record at the time), scoring
seven goals for his country. Davis played for the
U.S. in the 1984 Summer Olympics|1984 and 1988
Summer Olympics and was named U.S. Soccer Athlete
of the Year in 1984, the first year of the award.

Davis was elected to the National Soccer Hall of
Fame in 2001.
