Saleha Zhowandai was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. 
She completed her undergraduate work at Kabul
University in the field of economics, and her
graduate degrees at the Universities of University
of Ohio|Ohio and University of Hawaii|Hawai'i.

Zhowandai received the first Fulbright Scholarship
given to a woman in Afghanistan in the field of
economics. She was a member of the Kabul
University faculty, and has taught in several
United States|American universities.
