Image:salman_khan.jpg|thumb|Salman Khan Salman Khan (Urdu: سلمان خان, DevanÄgarÄ«|Devanāgarī: सलमान ख़ान), born December 27, 1965, is a Bollywood movie star. He rose to fame with the hit film Maine Pyar Kiya and followed up with megahits Andaz Apna Apna, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Salman was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, into a family with strong ties to the film industry. His father Salim Khan is a successful screenplay writer. One of Salim Khan's wives (he has two) is the famous dancer Helen. Salman's brothers Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan are also actors, if not as successful as Salman. Salman has has two younger sisters, one married to actor Atul Agnihotri. Salman has been in the news for some controversial reasons: * He was charged with hunting an endangered species, the Blackbuck. * He was arrested for drunk driving and vehicular homicide. He lost control of his car and killed three people who had been sleeping on a Mumbai sidewalk. * The media had a field day with his romantic misadventures (a rocky romance with actress Aishwarya Rai, now ended). * The latest flap is the release of transcript of what is claimed to be a taped mobile phone conversation between Salman and Aishwarya. Khan was allegedly trying to force Aishwarya to appear at several events sponsored by the Mumbai underworld, threatening her and boasting of his connections to organized crime. Despite being considered as Bollywood's "badboy", many people swear by his friendship and benevolent nature. He is often involved in charitable causes and is said to be a frequent visitor to old-age homes and cancer hospitals. He is also very strongly devoted to his friends and family. None of Salman's latest films has been as successful as his earlier hits, but he is still considered one of the top actors in Bollywood. People still say that the industry is ruled by the so-called "three Khans" (Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan). ==Awards== * Salman was given the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, at the 1998 FilmFare Awards. * He won the Best Sensational Actor award for his role in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke at the 2002 Z-Gold Bollywood Awards. * He was voted as the world's seventh-most handsome man by the readers of People's Magazine. ==Trivia== He always appears in films wearing a bracelet with a turquoise stone; his father wears a similar "lucky" bracelet. He frequently appears in films sans shirt -- he is a dedicated bodybuilder and directors rarely miss a chance to show off the results. His measurements are said to be: * Arms - 17 inches; 43.18 cm * Chest - 42 inches; 106.68 cm * Waist - 29 inches; 73.66 cm * Hips - 40 inches; 101.6 cm * Thighs - 23 inches; 58.42 cm ==Filmography== * Babul (2006) (announced) * Jaaneman (2006) ...
