Scott Verplank is (born July 9, 1964 in Dallas, Texas) is an United States|American golfer. While attending Oklahoma State University he won a PGA Tour event, namely the Western Open as an amateur, which no one had done since Doug Sanders at the 1956 Canadian Open. He also won the 1984 U.S. Amateur Championship and the 1986 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships|NCAA individual title. Verplank graduated and turned professional in 1986. His career has been solid rather than exceptional, with four wins on the PGA Tour as of June 2005, and one appearance in the Ryder Cup, which was in 2002.
