Shahrukh Khan (Persian alphabet|Urdu script:
شاہ رخ
خان,
DevanÄgarÄ«|Devanāgarī:
शाहरुख़
ख़ान), a/k/a SRK, born November
2, 1965, New Delhi, India, is a Bollywood Indian
actor. Image:Actgal2959.jpg|thumb|Shahrukh Khan

==Background==

Born into a Muslim family of Pathan origin in
Delhi, Shahrukh Khan earned a Masters in Mass
Communications from Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi.
His wife is Gauri Khan (formerly Gauri Chibba), a
Punjabi from Delhi. He has a son named Aryan Khan
and a daughter named Suhana Khan.

==Movie Career==
SRK first entered the limelight with his role as
'Abhimanyu' in the Tele-serial Fauji (Soldier). He
also acted in minor role in a tele-series called
'Circus' which portrayed the life of circus
performers. He made his movie debut in 1992 with
Deewana. In 1993 he shot to stardom in his two
successive negative roles as a paranoid lover in
Baazigar and Darr. 1995 proved to be a defining
year in his career, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
his biggest hit firmly positioned him as the most
successful actor in hindi romantic movies. He
followed DDLJ with a string of successful love
stories, including Pardes, Dil to Pagal Hai, Kuch
Kuch Hota Hai and Mohabbatein.

His association with director/producer Yash Chopra
has resulted in such successful hits as Darr, Dil
To Pagal Hai, Mohabbatein and Veer-Zaara. He has
also had success working with Karan Johar and Yash
Johar on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie
Gham and Kal Ho Na Ho.

Shahrukh has shared good onscreen chemistry with
many of his female co-stars. All of the five
movies in which he co-starred with actress Kajol
were box office hits. His association with
Madhuri Dixit in several movies has also been
commercially successful, most notably in Anjaam,
Koyla, Dil to Pagal Hai and Devdas.

Shahrukh also owns a production house called
Dreamz Unlimited along with actress Juhi Chawla (a
friend ever since they co-starred in Raju Ban Gaya
Gentleman) and film director Aziz Mirza. In 2004,
his production house Red Chilles Entertainment
produced the biggest hit of the year Main Hoon Na.

Despite his success, critics and others have often
criticized Shahrukh for sticking to "safe"
romantic roles (such as the ones he portrays in
all of Karan Johar's films). Swades, however,
silenced many of these dissenting opinions; it
featured Shahrukh in a low-key and understated
performance that was in utter contrast to his
previous efforts.

==Awards==

Shahrukh has won six Filmfare Award|Filmfare
awards for Best Actor. The latest award was given
in 2005 for his role in Swades as an
Indian-American NASA engineer who finds new
meaning in his life when he encounters life in
rural India. 2004 has been a good year for the
actor. He acted in three movies and has received
Filmfare nominations for each of the movies.

His Awards Include:

*Best Actor, Critics Choice - Mohabbatein 2001
*Best Performer, Critics choice - Kabhi Haan Kabhi
Naa 1994

If all categories in which Shahrukh Khan has won a
Filmfare are included he has won the maximum
number of Filmfare awards for performance in Hindi
movies. He is two short of equalling the record
for Best Actor category. Dilip Kumar heads the
list with Eight awards between 1954 and 1983.

In addition to acting, Shahrukh also performs on
many stage shows (showcasing his former movies) as
well as hosting them throughout India and abroad.
 His recent show, "Temptations", included
