Biography of Stephen Covey - Self-Help Author
Biography
S
Stephen R. Covey (born October 24 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah) is the author of the bestselling book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, as well as other books. He is the founder of the Covey Leadership Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is the "Covey" of the Franklin-Covey Corporation, which makes planners and organizers. The Seven Habits, Stephen's first (and most well-known) book, was extremely succesful and has sold over 10 million copies (ISBN 0671708635). In this book, Stephen argues against what he calls "The Personality Ethic", prevalent in many modern self-help books, and instead promotes what he labels "The Character Ethic", which is more based upon one's principles and code of conduct. The book was first published in 1990. The follow-up titles to The Seven Habits add to the original and form a cohesive philosophy for how to lead your life based on your principles. They include (but are not limited to): *Principle Centered Leadership, published in 1992 (ISBN 0671792806). *First Things First, co-authored with Roger and Rebecca Merrill, published in 1994 (ISBN 0684802031). *The 8th Habit, published in 2004 (ISBN 0684846659). *Living the Seven Habits, published in 2000 (ISBN 0684857162). All of the titles are additonally available as audio books. He also also written a number of learning books for children. Stephen works to help others gain proficiency in their lives, especially within the context of business and management. However, there is a welcome emphasis on the family and how to lead in all parts of your life, so the books are as applicable to a high-powered executive as they are to a stay-at-home mother (or father). Similar authors might include Peter Drucker or David Allen as well as other more business-centered writers. == External links == * http://www.isssp.com/index.asp?page=professional_p rofile&show=100018964 ISSSP Profile * http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/s/stephe n_r_covey.html Covey Quotes
