Viktor Onopko (Виктор Савелье& #1074;ич Онопко, born October 14, 1969 in Voroshilovgrad, USSR) is a Russian football (soccer)|football defender (football)|defender, the all-time cap leader for the Russia national football team|Russian national team. In his club career that started in 1988, Onopko played for FC Shakhtar Donetsk|Shakhtar Donetsk, Spartak Moscow, Real Oviedo, Rayo Vallecano, and FC Alania Vladikavkaz|Alania Vladikavkaz. He currently plays for FC Saturn Ramenskoe|FC Saturn, having joined the club in 2004. Although he was eligible to play for Ukraine national football team|Ukraine, Onopko elected to play for Russia and has amassed 109 caps (plus four for the USSR national football team|CIS), the first coming in 1992. He played in the Football World Cup 1994|1994 and Football World Cup 2002|2002 Football World Cup|World Cups, as well as 1996 European Football Championship|Euro 96. Onopko was named Russian footballer of the year in 1993 and 1994.
