Elena Berezhnaya (born October 11 1977 in
Nevinnomirsk, Russia) is a Russian
figure skating|figure skater.

Berezhnaya has competed in three Winter Olympics:
in 1994 Winter Olympics|1994, representing Latvia
with Oleg Shliahov and, in 1998 Winter
Olympics|1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics|2002,
representing Russia with Anton Sikharulidze.  She
won the silver medal in 1998 and the gold medal in
2002, in the pairs competition, skating with Anton
Sikharulidze.  The decision to award the gold
medal in 2002 was the subject of a
hugely-publicised Figure skating at the 2002
Winter Olympics|controversy, which was finally
resolved by the awarding of an additional gold to
the Canada|Canadian pair that had originally been
given the silver.
